The Best Costa Rica Beaches

Discovered in 1502 by Christopher Columbus, Costa Rica has captivated millions since, particularly due to its beaches.

Costa Rica beaches cover over 1800 kilometers of area within the country. These beaches, famous for surfing and vacationing, are one of the top reasons tourists visit this beautiful country year after year. Travel and tourism within Costa Rica has been at an all time high- mostly due to the beautiful Costa Rica beaches. No matter what your idea of fun on the beach is, Costa Rica can fulfill your desires.

The Best Beaches in the World

Costa Rica contains over thirty-two different popular beaches and bays.  All of these locations have numerous hotels and bungalows within walking distance.  With the Pacific ocean bordering Costa Rica's west side, and the Caribbean ocean bordering Costa Rica to the East, Costa Rica's beaches are filled with warm tropical water.  Activities from horseback rides to scuba diving and private guided tours all await tourists. In fact, Costa Rica is probably the most tourist friendly country in South America, due to the natural hospitality of the natives there. There is nothing more that Costa Ricans love than to be complimented by having an opportunity to show off their lovely country.

Costa Rica beaches also contain a variety of marine life. Containing thousands of species of marine life, Costa Rica offers guided tours of these areas. In addition, professional fishing expeditions are offered, giving the opportunity to fish in some of the most exotic waters in the world. For those wishing to view the marine animals native to Costa Rica while staying dry, there is also a world famous zoo located in San Jose- the Costa Rica Zoo. The Costa Rica Zoo also contains animals foreign to Costa Rica, such as Lions and Zebras.

The Costa Rica beaches also contain a rare compliment to their beauty- the lush inland areas. Further inside of Costa Rica lie attractions such as farms of butterflies (first opened in 1983, and containing hundreds of different butterfly species), tropical flora (Costa Rica contains over 2.5 million square miles of rainforest), and peaceful mountains (the highest point in Costa Rica is 12,533 ft). Costa Rica also contains the busy city of San Jose- a common stop for tourists. In addition, a variety of adventure tours are available for the inner areas of Costa Rica, ranging from river excursions to jungle exploration. Costa Rica beaches, while a beautiful attraction, are definitely not all this exotic country has to offer.

The white, clean beaches of Costa Rica have enchanted thousands of tourists so far, from hundreds of different countries. It is no wonder why so many people vacation in this beautiful country, and especially the beach areas. While Costa Rica's main income used to be agriculture, it is no surprise that ecotourism is now the main source of income for this country. Why not treat yourself to a trip to this tropical paradise soon? This country's beaches alone are more than sufficient to spend a week or two on, let alone the other attractions of this beautiful country.

Before you visit Costa Rica there are some things you need to know.

Costa Rica can be best described as a middle-income, democratic country that is still developing. Tourist facilities are located throughout the whole country. The capital of Costa Rica is San Jose. For many Costa Ricans, English is a second language to their native Spanish.

For entry into Costa Rica, U.S. citizens wishing to visit Costa Rica must present a valid passport that will not expire for at least thirty days after they arrive. The passports must be in good condition, as the Costa Rican immigration officials will deny entry to the country if you present a damaged passport. Currently Costa Rican officials permit U.S. citizens to stay in the country for up to ninety days. If a visitor wants to stay longer they are required to apply for an extension at the Office of Temporary Permits located at the Costa Rican Department of Immigration. Before leaving the country there is a departure tax all foreigners must pay.
